Hello!

I’m experiencing a slight problem with my preamps. I built two mp12s and two mp73s. All four of them work perfectly with microphone signals. The mp73s work fine with DI signals too, but that’s not the case for the mp12s.

The DI02 per se works fine, I tested the rail connectors as you indicated in the setup manuals and I get 18v an all of them and the shortcut tests are as they should be.
All the setup values for the mp12s are correct, as I said they work fine for mic signals.

I tried various combinations, connecting each mp12 to DI1 and DI2, but no deal. The DI1 and DI2 ports work fine with the mp73s and all 4 preamps get power.

The odd thing is that both mp12s show this behavior, I might have done the same mistake twice during assembly, but it seems a little too odd.

This is my situation as is: I have 4 fine working preamps built in the rack with DI02 (Ps02 as powers supply). Only the gold faced ones work with DI signal, the black faced don’t even “see” the DI signal (the Led won’t turn green at any time and there is no sound coming out).

I can live with the mp12s not working as DIs, but it seems rather strange. Can you give me some advice?

Thank you!!

Hello,

I just finished building an MP573. I was going to install it in my Empirical Labs EL-500 rack but the input transformer won't clear the metal crossbar above the slot. And even if I were to remedy that, it looks like the same problem will occur when the output transformer tries to pass through the slot. I've checked over my assembly - everything is flush and as far down as it can go. I guess I could remove one of each pair of washers underneath the output transformer, but I'm stumped on the input transformer. Any ideas?

I really hope this isn't a deal-breaker. I don't need or want a lunch box - this EL-500 is a much better piece of equipment.

Any advice would be appreciated,

Hello!

I'm having trouble to get the MP12 working properly.
It's built with transformers CMMI-8-PCA and CMOQ-2S and the SK25 Opamp.
The input seems to be ok. All check from the Setup guide has been done but the Output Pad potentiometer doesn't act as I expected. Almost no difference between the min and the max setting of P2.
Here's some data:
0,5VAC on the input (1kHz sinus from my dac)
Gain selection set to mid and the gain knob adjusted just to get to my peak level (the led goes red at -3dB)
The output is measured to 4,5VAC when P2 is set to min, 4,54VAC when P2 is set to max.
When measuring the output resistance (no power connected) it shows 0,31 to 1,23 kOhm.
Jmp5 is set to 1-2 and 3-4. The DOA output voltage nulling is very close to zero (0,1-0,2 mV). I have double checked all components (resistors, capacitors polarity and value, all diods sort and polarity) and can't find any solder shorts or breaks. I have tried with and without U1 and J4 but with the same result.

Is it P2 that's not working or might there be other faults?
Grateful for answer!!

Hi!
I´ve been soldering all day and finally got together the DI02 board, SKMP, and one MP73. I did the shortcircuit test as described in the setup of the DI02, and everything seems fine. However, when i measure DC volts on pin 13-14 i get a reading of 26 volts +. Is this ok? The setup says it should be around 15V.
On the negative pin i get around -18V wich seems ok..
I dont have a scale function on my DMM. Could that affect the readings?
I would be really thankful for help on this one. Its really late and maybe i´m just really confused..

I'm currently putting together an STS. Everything has been going smoothly, but while screwing on one of the spacers that hold the LED meters, I slipped and bent a capacitor over. The soldering was intact, but one of the legs pulled out of the body, not completely but a good bit. I pushed it back into place, and it looks and feels fine, but I thought I might have damaged the inside or it might not be making good contact inside at least.

If this isn't a problem, that's fantastic, but I figure it probably is. If that's the case, where would be the best place to get a replacement, and exactly what model code should I search for? It's C10L, which is one of the Nichicon electrolytic capacitors, 33u 35v.

I live in Kentucky in the U.S.

Thanks a lot,

encore merci

Dear jpk,
First of all, I have purchase several products and I am very pleased with the quality and of course the sound of your products.
Now, my question is the following: I would like to connect the power supply PSL1 with two kits, the MP73 and MP66 mic pre, but without the use of DI02. Could you help me with a diagram (simple if possible because I have just the basic knowledge of electronics)and perhaps some instructions, of this connection?
Thank you in advance.

Bonjour,

[i]Experimenting with the fabulous discrete bipolar SK99 opamp./i]

I built a circuit similar to your MP-32 preamp but with 2 servos for DC output offset correction and without the output transformer on a breadboard.

Do you think servos in conjunction with the 99b are generally a good idea? Some speak of servo artifacts. I saw some phenomenons on my FFT but at this point I am not sure if they are related to the servos at all.

Also, the "MP32's" performance seemed to be very good even without the transformer end. Are there potential drawbacks of leaving out the output transformer like balancing problems, or... ?

Thanks for this great opamp!

Cheers,
